And to be honest I think Chiv 2 will appeal more to the casual crowd. I'm pleasantly surprised by how different it feels from Mordhau and Chiv 1. And they added chambering from Mordhau (called counters) which i like too.Ĭonclusion: I think Mordhau is the better game. ![]() I also like that they added morphs from Mordhau (which Chiv 2 calls feints now), although the held block negates it's effectiveness somewhat. The new additions of special attacks, heavy attacks, and jab injects fresh possibilities into the combat system. They didn't copy Mordhau's 8 different directions of attack. I really like that they tried to make it different. To me the movement and the strikes feel better and they have more weight.īut Chiv 2 is a good and different enough that you don't feel like your playing the same game. The combat is more refined and requires more finesse. I literally just texted my friend about this.Īfter playing for a couple hours, my immediate impression is that i prefer mordhau. Also in Chiv 2, it’s a lot easier to give pressure back when you start getting steamrolled in Mordhau, teams pick up momentum fast and they don’t lose it often. That may seem more “casual” but the important thing is that it’s a lot more fun and makes you feel like you’re contributing to the overall fight. But with Chiv 2, you’re still probably going to die fighting 1v6, but the blocking and combat is so much more “fun” that you’ll go down giving them a good fight. If 6 people gang up on you in Mordhau, you’re pretty much instantly dead unless you’re really good, which is understandable and realistic. Yes, technically speaking there’s more technique and skill involved with Mordhau’s blocking, but the parry-heavy blocking in Mordhau is too dark souls-y and doesn’t fit well with the rest of the gameplay imo. The chiv 2 blocking system is soooo much better than Mordhau or Chiv 1. One area in the combat that I think Chiv picked up where Mordhau dropped the ball is blocking. Chiv 2 made the gameplay less about cheesing hit boxes and doing all sorts of wacky shit with your mouse just to land a hit, and made it more about having lasting, involved, and fun fights. I love Mordhau, don’t get me wrong, but even as a veteran player I still think the game just has way too much sweat that it ends up being more competitive than fun (not saying you can’t just stock up on frying pans and go on a rampage). On a technical level, Chiv 2 doesn’t really hold a candle to Mordhau and you can really get lost in Mordhau’s combat but on pretty much every other front, Chiv 2 is an upgrade. ![]() ![]() I think Chiv 2 is the more fun (keyword) game.
